Many famous faces, now on commercial television and radio, have stemmed from the RMIT Student Union’s media group, RMITV. One of the many is Scott Brennan, who is an acclaimed actor and fantastic comedian, best known for his work on sketch shows, skitHOUSE and Comedy Inc., and has done stand-up for both the Comedy Channel and live events, like the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Scott Brennan might be currently working on the Nine Network’s Comedy Inc., but only years ago, he was doing it hard as an up and coming comedian and host of RMITV’s “The Loft Live”.

The Loft was the start of many careers, including Rove McManus, Peter Helliar and Adam Richard. Remembering back to the crazy days of The Loft, “we couldn’t afford lights”, said Brennan, comparing the RMIT Studio of his days to now. “In fact, we didn’t even have a TV station, we just had a flick-book”, he laughed.

Zero-dollar budgets aside, Brennan has fond memories of his time with RMITV. Including, being cramped into the tiny Green Room before each show. Or having his own little corner in the studio, where he was allowed to do anything he wanted, including being strung up from the ceiling, during an interview with the RMIT Caving Group.

Although, he justifies the struggle as “worth it” because he made some great industry contacts, including that of Rove McManus. In 2003, Rove’s production company, Roving Enterprises, cast Scott Brennan in skitHOUSE for Network Ten. When asked about the move from RMITV to commercial TV all he had to say was, “well, the catering was a lot better on skitHOUSE.”

Since skitHOUSE, Scott has gone on to Comedy Inc. and various short-film projects.

Brennan credits his commercial success to “just going out there, and getting involved,” with groups like RMITV. “For every audition you do, you’ll only get one,” he said, “so just be pro-active and don’t stop trying.”

When we asked him about any regrets that he just quietly said, “maybe pashing Rove at the Logies.”
