Australia’s favourite Muslim TV show, Salam Café, returns for its third season on Melbourne community TV Channel 31. The new episodes screen Monday nights 8.30pm, from October 2^nd, 2006. It will broadcast soon after that on community TV stations around Australia.

This entertaining weekly panel and interview show has received great acclaim. In just two seasons on air, Salam Café has been nominated for eight Australian Community Television Antenna Awards and has won three, including the prestigious Program of the Year in June earlier this year.  Salam Café also won Best New Voice at the 2005 Community Broadcasting Association of Australia Awards in Perth.

Salam Café presents panel discussion, guest interviews, vox pops and sketches taking a light-hearted look at the Australian Muslim experience. The show also covers mainstream Australian issues and events, including last year’s AFL Grand Final.

Salam Café began in 2004 as an experimental series made by a group of friends frustrated seeing Muslims on TV who were nothing like them or anyone they knew. The show has grown into a respected and popular show with average national viewership of over 100,000. Salam Café screens on community TV channels in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.

Fans of all ages appreciate the refreshing insight into the lives and minds of ordinary Australian Muslims. Audience feedback has been overwhelmingly positive from Muslim and non-Muslim viewers alike, even internationally due to web-casting of episodes on YouTube.

Guest interviews this season include: Randa Abdel-Fattah: author of Does my Head Look Big in This?, Azhar Usman and Preacher Moss: U.S. stand-up comics of the Allah Made me Funny tour, and Silma Buckley of the acclaimed documentary, Silma’s School.
