The day began at 8am; as
tents and gazebos were set up in Bowen Street, in RMIT University's
City Campus, the RMITV tech team began setting up an Outside Broadcast
studio and RMITV management and a few keen volunteers set up an
on-location office to entice new studets to RMITV. As the temperature got as high as 38 degrees, RMIT Pro-Vice Chancellor Joyce Kirk, Melboure City Council Lord Mayor John So and other esteemed guests were seated outside RMITV's Festivals Day headquarters, to welcome all new students to the university and for a performance of indigenous traditional music. Not long after, the RMITV Chairperson and Programming Manager (Lisa Fagan and Scott Star) managed the biggest coup RMITV has had since Hamish and Andy left to Channel Seven. Yes, they managed to get the Lord Mayor John So to sign up as a member of RMITV. As the day continued, the weather became hotter and all of our volunteers received a few free soft drinks and a BBQ before our LIVE TO AIR broadcast on C31. At 1.30pm, Dylan Leach and Scott Star hit the airwaves of C31, hosting RMITV Live at RMIT Festivals Day 2008. Between interviews with RMIT student groups RUSH and Tamil Mandram, Leach and Star managed to entertain the audience that had gathered in Bowen Street with their usual antics of ranting about absolutely nothing, yet getting a whole lot of laughs, a skill to be honed by all RMITV presenters. Led by producer (and RMITV General Manager) Kristin Stephensen, about a dozen RMITV volunteers managed to keep the program alive and on-air, working through the stressful noises of the Festival and the difficult heat. But by 3pm it was all over. Everyone was too tired and heat stroked to pack up, which only finished at about 5pm. And then it was off to the pub. Sincere congratulations need to be rewarded to Kristin Stephensen, who pulled all the shenanigans together; presenters Dylan Leach and Scott Star, who were excited and entertaining the whole way through; and to Kye Lewis, Darren McAuliffe and Craig Young (our tech team) for all of their hard work and enthusiasm in setting up the outside broadcast. But most of all, a huge thank you to all of our fantastic volunteers who managed to make the day possible. And a warm welcome to all of our new RMITV members! |
